Beware the Enemy on the Inside

th

In life and in business we must beware of the enemies on the inside. They hold us back and they hold us down, but one sees them. Unrestrained they destroy us from the inside. Beware the feeling of indifference; the ho hum let it slide attitude. You can’t drift to the top of the mountain, that attitude will only take you down. You must climb over obstacles; both internal and external, if you want to do something in life. And you are not working on your personal development, you are on a slippery slope.

Indecision is the enemy of us all. Indecision is the thief of opportunity. Don’t let it steal your chance for a better spring or a brighter future. Springtime is when you plant a seed of an idea. Harvest comes after you do the work. There are no free rides unless you are going nowhere worthwhile. Gather as much information as you can then make a decision. Sometimes you just have to take a leap of faith. I did and that’s why you are reading this. Make a decision to read everything while you are here.

Doubt is OK, you can’t believe everything. Search for what you want. Dig for the truth. I’m reading “Three Feet from Gold”; the miner gave up too soon, if he had kept going he would have struck gold and his life would be completely different.  You can’t let doubt take over; if you doubt the pass and doubt the future, doubt each other, you will doubt the possibilities and doubt the opportunity and worst doubt of all is you will doubt yourself. I believe you can.  Don’t let doubt destroy your life and your chances and empty your purse and your heart. Surround yourself around people who will believe in you until you can have enough belief in yourself. Join an empowering community.

Worry some, but don’t let worry conquer you. Be alarmed, but not conquered. Worry is useful. Step of the curb in a busy city during rush hour and you better worry about the traffic or else they will be carrying you away in an ambulance. Be alert instead. Be on the lookout for an opportunity before things get shaky at work. Another government shutdown is probably coming. Be alert. Drive your worry into a corner. Whatever is pushing you, push back. Become proactive instead of reactive; it’s less stressful.

Illness is on the edge of your health, waiting for a chance to enter your body. If it can find a way in, it will muscle its way in and take over the territory.  Be proactive. You must have the discipline to fight the battle to stay healthy; eat right, exercise, and cut out the unhealthy habits. Illness will come to all of us, but don’t just let it run in on you.

Overcautious; the timid approach to life is not the way. Timidity is not a virtue, it is an illness. If you let it go and go, it will conquer you. Timid people don’t get promoted, sometimes they barely get noticed. It can be conquered but you must work at it. You work on your job to get paid. So, work on yourself to better your life.

You can go to the Success Store and get some reading material to start you reading program. If you don’ want to read, then get some audio tapes and turn your car into drive university. I found the best way to work on personal development is to get in a program in which it is stressed for you to make improvement. You don’t know how a car handles unless you drive it. This is me in beast mode. Fight the enemy inside.Straight talk no chaser.

It’s people over things

download

People over things, is the best way to think. No matter how big or small the business or what the product or service, the most valuable asset of any entity is “the people”. It’s people that create it, sale it, market it, and talk about it.

Instead of people selling out for the organization (say anything to get the position) a better approach might be to find a good match, in which both parties benefit in the long run. If the “head” of the organization could find out the “heart” of a new person; what drives them, besides the money, then maybe a long-term relationship could be formed.

Unfortunately, most people go to work just for the check, not the feelings of satisfaction of making a contribution. It’s not about doing something, just for the love of the game, or the challenges of life. We all grow up, and only a select hand-full get to ‘play in the game’. In sports and in the workplace, people perform just for the check. And when you fail to perform, you are sent packing. Normally, there will be someone waiting in the wings, that can replace you.

Sometimes you can be doing all the things you need to do, and still be fired. Businesses go through cycles and sometimes, through no fault of yours, it’s time to move on. The problem is the higher you are, the harder the fall. There is no sense of family or responsibility except that which is required by law or common practice. When employees get laid off around Christmas time, it’s not personal, it business. But it still sucks! It really sucks when it happens to you, or someone you personally know.

Mental toughness and physical ability is what separates the big-time winners, from the rest, that just play the game. Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, Joe Montana, Wayne Gretzky were extraordinary and they set the bar for all that follow. Then there are captains of industry like Bill Gates and Steve Jobs. Self-driven people who excel, while others try to hang in there and do the best, that they can.

David Cook, one of the top sports psychologist in the world, worked with many top sport professionals, had a formula that he used for his clients. Performance equals potential, minus interference. Sometimes potential is not enough, on game day. The local sports teams have a lot of potential, but they still lost.

Businesses also have game days, and moments where everything is dependent on one good hit or one good pass. It’s those crucial times when you need to be at your best. How we respond depends on the distractions.

There are the external and the internal forces that come with the pressure to do well, like when all are watching. That’s why practice is so important. Even the pros must be aware of the voices within. What if I miss? What will people think? Can I do it? During stress, you can go back to your pass and worry about your future.

The pro must filter and focus to get the job done. When opportunity knocks you must be ready. You never know when you will get another chance to play in The Super Bowl or the World Series. Some people spend a life time and never make it to the play offs. It’s not about the metal to make the trophy, but the mental mind set it took to win the trophy, that counts.

If you been working for a long time, did you get in the game, or did you just stay on the grind? If you have not hit your home run yet, what is stopping you? Find something that you have passion for, and start to move in that direction. Realize that it will take time to get to where you want to go. I’ve been around long enough to hear too many people talk about retirement and not make it. Life is short, so you might as well enjoy the journey.

Join the a network and build a hedge around yourself for the uncertain times. You can get paid and be empowered to be yourself. But if you are looking for a free ride, you can get off the bus now!

You got to put in some time to overcome the learning curve! But if you could make an additional $3,000 to $5,000 each month part time would that be a good enough hedge around you and your family? What will it take for you, to look at an online opportunity?

As you can tell, I like to write. Some take pictures, and write quick notes, and some do video shoots, like you see everybody else, on social media. The Inner Circle audio program gave you additional ideas. Another benefit of being in the business, is you get a chance to travel and meet people that are in the same business. And you can use some of that, as a business expense.

I’ve been to Denver CO, Miami FL, Washington D.C. Charlotte North Carolina, Nashville TN, and Las Vegas NV. And I’m from Philadelphia PA. but originally from Detroit MI. This has been straight talk, no chaser.

Nailed it. So many people are in the job mindset because they know nothing else exists. There is a better way.

Earl Hackett
Thanks for your comment Mark. There was a time where loyal employees were appreciated, then it became profits, over people. I grew up working on the assembly line in Detroit in the 1960’s. You could make a decent living working in the factory back then, before things changed. I could have been drafted and sent to the Vietnam War but I enlisted in the Air Force to escape the manual labor of the assembly line.

Corporate America, at the highest levels made a decision to focus on the people at the top. Runaway Inequality an activist’s guide to economic Justice by Les Leopold, explains it all. When President Reagan broke the Air Traffic Controller Union, that just increased the decline of the unions in America.

So, the employee mindset changed: get the credentials to get the highest starting salary, then do just enough to get paid, and not rock the boat. The problem is, things gone worst. And the worst part is that the CEO’s that “deal and steal” seldom never, go to JAIL. And if you have no “plan B” you must soulfully rely on your job, soulless people at the top and an ever changing market place.

So, how do you handle tough situations?

images

Faith and action was the bottom line answer from Donna Krech who was known as the “belief builder”. She said, it was her belief system that carried her through tough times, as she was being interviewed by Chris Widener, in the “Made For Success” series. As the youngest of seven kids, her mother was a working, stay a home mom while her dad was an alcoholic, who died when she was only 15. A lot of who we are is shaped by our early years. And some of it, follows us into adulthood.

Donna married an abusive alcoholic, and when she finally broke free she married a man who fought and beat cancer, four times in three years. Through it all, she kept her faith and never gave up. She said she learned to stop, take a deep breath, and to listen to the small voice within. She believed that as long as she kept her priorities straight, things would always work out; God, family, then everything else.

When asked how she survived, going from a negative situation of spending years with an abusive alcoholic husband, to one in which she became the wife of a cancer survivor. She said she never gave up, and focused on the things she felt she was called to do. We are all created for a particular purpose, and when we fulfill that purpose, we become stronger, and should be able to share, and then help others.

When you take the time to write down the things that you go through, in a journal, you leave a written record of your life. Just the fact that you sit down and get your thoughts down, helps you to see your day clearer. Same thing can be said of blogging. The biggest difference is your message, reaches more people. Whatever problems you may be going through, there is someone, somewhere with the same problem.

We are a product of our beliefs. What we think about all the time, is what happens. If you think positive that’s what you get, if you think negative, that’s also what you get. If we can change our focus we can change our belief. It’s the sowing and reaping process.

If you set a goal to make an additional $3,000 to $5,000 a month in a part time online business and you stay focused on it, and you work towards it, you will make it, if you don’t quit. If you are actively working on your personal development you will get better over time.

The empower network training programs were designed to help your personal development, from the Inner Circle audios to the Top Producer Formula and the Team Building Formula, and it all comes together when you attended the events and talked face to face with other people.

Another simple solution is to go to the “Success Store” and read and listen to people, who have had reached a certain level of success. You can re-program your brain, but it takes work. What you want and desire should have 100 % of your focused energy. If you want more, then you must become more than you were before.

If your job is not satisfying, then look at supplementing it with a part time business. If all you do is “push to survive” the daily grind, and “live for the weekend”, be careful, because life will creep up on you, and before you know it, time will slip away. Find your passion while you have the energy and then work your passion. Find something that will empower you to become better.

I chose the Empower Network because I’ve always liked to write as you can see. I still got the drive, and I feel that I still got time, before I arrive. Maybe it’s because, I’m what they call a “Baby Boomer” and we felt that we could change the world. We got some Boomers who left a mark that will not be forgotten, like Malcolm, Martin, and Mandela. Who are your heroes? Sign up and get started. This has been straight talk, beast mode.

This is a great post, you got here Earl. When it comes to handling your current situation, that can be tough, as long as you start working on your mindset from the Inner Circle from Empower Network.

Very inspiring post Earl! Yes, I absolutely agree…Sometimes you just need faith and a little action. Thanks for sharing!

Lynn Brown
What an amazing story of Donna Krech and an inspiration to always keep pushing towards your dreams. Appreciate you sharing that Earl. And it is a great reminder that faith and action prevails!

Awesome story of Donna Krech. Very inspirational how she kept going 🙂

Thanks for your comments. It’s been said that tough times don’t last, but tough people do. Life happens to us all. What we do, depends on how we look at things. As I write this, the following song, plays in the background:

Lord, You woke me up early this morning. And I thank you. You didn’t have to wake this morning, but you did. And I thank you. You woke me early this morning and you were right on time, and I thank you. I had my “health” and my “strength” and I was “clothed in my right mind”. You didn’t have to do it but you did. And I thank you.

Compromise is not a bad word

images

There is nothing wrong with compromise as long as you stay true to who you are. You would think that compromise is a foreign idea in today’s political climate. To much time and energy is being wasted on staying within the party line. People forget the title of where we live is the “United States”. It’s easy to put people in a box and label them, but some people forget that we all come from somewhere different. Trust is on our currency but it needs to be in our leadership. People may not like what you say when you serve in the leadership role but they will respect you if you speak from the heart.

images

“We the People” is etched in stone at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia PA. I’m not a Philadelphia native, but as a two-time military veteran, I know first hand about the sacrifices many have made for us to say this is the land of the free and the home of the brave. To whom much is given, much is required.

Leaders that are likable collect more followers when they give value and they hold firm in their beliefs. People can sense sincerely and are attracted to it. Positive has a bigger draw than the negatives. The biggest musical hit of the season a few years ago was “Happy by Parnell Williams”. It was upbeat and people are sang it all over the world.

Jim Rohn called attitude one of the five major pieces of the life puzzle. A positive attitude will help you to overcome many problems when you add in persistence. I remember hearing Mike Hobbs’ story on the  Monday night call. Mike is one of those people with a great attitude. He conducted webinars for the Prosperity Team three times a week. As a military veteran, he has a military mind set, of do that needs to done, and he keeps going until he  gets it done. As one of the top money earners he does not have to do what he does but it just an indication of the type of people who raise to the top. Mission and purpose have meaning.

One politician  talked about one of his big supporters who came to him after he was elected and wanted him to do something he was against. He stuck to his principles and his supporter went away mad.  Months later when he went back home, he contacted his old supporter who told him that he was very upset at first because he could not believe he could do what he said; balance the budget without raising taxes.

We look at the top people and forget that even they started somewhere. Some people who started at the bottom, do the work and they  rise up. When they got there they realized that things needed to change for others to make it so they formed a network of like minded people. The basic concept is to empower others.

Some of the overnight success stories, are the results of years of struggle. Even Vick Stirizhus worked with Click Bank for a long time before he built his huge list that allowed him to set internet marketing records. If you want to enter the internet marketing world be willing to work, learn and to grow.

Mike Hobbs talked about all the mistakes he made getting started in the business. I was in the same situation and and I did some of the things he talked about. Some people started then they stopped, some said they would get started but they never did. You can only help people so much.

Les Brown said , look for the people who are hungry. Because they are looking for you. Nobody knows it all in the beginning. You got to learn your way around.  Once you sign in and put the time and the effort in, people will take notice. At the end of the word COMPRISE is a promise. The power of the universe will move in your favor when you take that leap of faith. The journey starts when you begin.  This has been straight talk, beast mode.

The Lion Roars and the Crowd Yells

images
When you leave the arena will your story be dazzling and spectacular like the general who became a slave? Will you be as brave as the slave who became a gladiator and as gallant as the gladiator who defied an emperor.
Can life imitate art like in the movies? What kind of legacy will you leave behind? It takes a lot to become a general and it does not happen overnight. You must survive a lot of battles. It takes a lot to become a captain of industry. You must out maneuver all your foes. America is still the place where you can start off with nothing and become something that people will talk about long after you are gone.
During the American Industrial Revolution there were people like Henry Ford who set the stage for the magical city called Motor City. People gathered, and flocked from around the nation during those boom times. He didn’t invent the first car but he became the king of mass production.
Beside the sound of metal being made into cars was the sound of music from the urban side of town, it was called Motown. I worked on the assembly line during the boom times and I visited where they made the hits in a little building called Hitsville USA. The first time I saw this two story house I couldn’t believe I was at the right place.
I was looking for a high rise office building and the name Motown on the top of the building.  The little sign Motown, was not in the window and I thought I was lost.
download

This was in the early 1960’s and I had heard all the hits, and seen all the acts in person at the “Motown Review” at the Fox  theater. Detroit Michigan was the home of Motown and I lived on the East side of town. I had rode for blocks and blocks on my bike, by myself, to discover the magical place where Motown was creating hits and I found this little two story house.
I laugh at myself for being so foolish, but now, that I  think  about it, maybe it was an indication of things to come. The “spirit of adventure” took me to Disney World in FL, Disney Land in CA, and the castle Neuschwanstein  in Bavaria Germany . The idea for the magic kingdom came from Germany. My time in the military just expanded my world view.
download
When it’s all said and done, what will they say about you? What will be your legacy? I was working my grind in the Matrix for a mighty long time. I saw daylight from time to time but didn’t disconnect. I was always searching for the right opportunity.
We really don’t have much time here on the planet. We need to do, what we need to do, to leave a mark. It’s really not about how much money you made, but how many people you touched.
Today we live in a world in which your influence can be felt globally. Today’s heroes are people like Steve Jobs and Bill Gates and a host of others you may not heard of yet. They have prospered from technology in the information age. Plus they are leaving something behind.
If you can learn to operate in this sphere you can build a legacy with world wide influence. I have been to seven different countries on three separate continents while  serving  in two branches of the military. It takes time to rise through the ranks and I know it takes time to become a military general or a captain of industry.
I write, I blog, not to brag but to encourage you do more by getting started on your story now. If all you have is your job and you work everyday I salute you. If you are doing what you need to do to support your family, I salute you.

I was raised by a mother on welfare then sent to live with my father, who was a WW II veteran. First nine years with mom the the next nine with dad. Then Sam took over; Uncle Sam. Who will know what you did while you were here, beside your family. We all have a story to tell. What is yours?
What is your purpose, why are you here? We humans were created to do something with the seasons, the soil and the seed, the sunshine and the rain. If you get a chance go to the “Success Store”, read about Jim Rohn and the Seasons of Life.  And listen to  “Challenge to Succeed” because it is a challenge and we must move in the right direction every day.
Skilled young athletics go from high school to the pros and make millions of dollars. What do they do with their money beside spent it all on bling? Talented young people come up with the beats and a song to sing or rap but what is the message for the next generation? Legacy is more than how much you got, but what you left.
We have become a consumer nation where it’s not “what we produce” but “what we buy” that people think is all important. I think young folks should attend college if they get a chance. But gain some kind of work experience beyond high school to mature and grow before you go. We could all use a little coaching.

Mind set is important no matter what you do. Community also plays a major part in your personal development. If you have a chance to join a community that is doing something positive attend their next event. This has been straight talk, no chaser.

Gold is good but Platinum Rules

images

Dr. Hill writings were based on the Golden Rule. Dr. Alessandra updated the concept by writing a booked titled, The Platinum Rule. The golden rule is based on the universal human concept of doing unto others as you would want them to do unto you. Ethics, values, honesty, and consideration are the pillars of the golden rule.

The Platinum Rule is a twist on the Golden Rule because some people may not want to be treated the same as you. We now live in such a world where diversity is recognized; gender and generational diversity, ethnic, religious, and racial diversity, NOW we need to be able to reach people on their level. It’s do unto others as they would have you do unto them. Treat people as they want to be treated, (“taking everything into consideration”).

images

At the core of the Platinum Rule is being able to adapt to your new surroundings. Sometimes you need to change your approach or your strategy, depending on the type of people you are talking to. A speaker would address a group of C.E.O.’s and top-level executives a little differently than a group of home based entrepreneurs. The primary focus should be on the other person, not the location.

Communication should be targeted to your audience, to be effective. On a one to one conversation, it’s understanding the style of the other person. Sometimes you may have to slow down, while at other times you may have to speed up. Sometimes you must get straight to the point and other times you must move gradually into it. There are four different personality types and your message may, or may not reach each one. There is the director, the relater, the thinker and the socializer.

The director type wants the bottom line. They are the C.E.O., general contractor type of person, who wants to call all the shots: How much is it going to cost and how long will it take? They like to work fast and ‘get the basic concept quick’. Their attitude is give it to me straight. They may come across as blunt, but they are just very focused.

The thinker is more analytical. They are the Star Trek, Mr. Spock type. They like order, accuracy, precision, and they are detail orientated. They are drawn to career fields where numbers play a major role like accounting, engineering, architecture, and computer programming.

The relater looks for harmony and works best with building personal relationships. They are great, team-players and team leaders. They are drawn to professional fields that help other people; counseling, social services, nursing, and clergy.

The socializer is outgoing and friendly. They love visibility and recognition. People are drawn to them because they have the natural gift of gab. They work well in the fields of sales, and public relations. They like to be in an exciting changing environment.

The Empower Network draws all types because you are “empowered to be you”, you can do almost anything, but you must have a target market, in mind. I’m looking for people that want to learn additional skills and make some additional money on line. I’m glad I found the network because, I like to listen to the great motivational thinkers, and add my thoughts and experiences and share with others.

So how does one build a positive mind set in a negative world. If you have a smart phone and internet you can subscript to positive messages on the go. Search You Tube channels like the following: Healthy Mind, Motivation2Study, Motivation, Team Fearless, Absolute Motivation, Success Achieve, Red Frost Motivation, Be Phenomenal, Deleon Motivation, TEDx Talks, Tony Robbins, Les Brown, Eric Thomas, Evan Camichael, Maggie Anderson, Dr. Claude Anderson, The Great Griot.

It’s not all inclusive but it’s some of the motivational material I listen to. Recalling the Platinum Rule, pick who you like, but remember if you don’t put something positive in your mind, the negative will win!!!  Gold is attainable but platinum is really rare. http://therealmoney.online/earlhackett323/

Hey Earl, Platinum is the way to go! Thanks for sharing!

I enjoyed this blog Earl. I like the golden rule but totally agree with the platinum rule. We need to stand by great values but we need to be flexible in how we apply them. This is a great example of why and how. Loved the part how improved his friend Dennis was. LOL. Thanks.

Thanks Earl. And I share the same philosophy – treat everyone like you want to be treated.

Thanks for your comments. Some would say it’s being politically correct or following the local customs of where-ever you may be. A conversation is still give and take. Politics and religion are still touchy subjects today but some things still need to be discussed, to be resolved. The United States of America is the largest melting pot of the world. Life liberty and the pursuit of happiness is universal and wanted from sea to shining sea.

Will your pass be carried forward?

Yea, It’s that time of the year.

images

If you get the ball, will you be able to move forward? I think it’s important to know where you came from, to see where you want to go. Chris Widener was interviewing John Connors in the “Made for Success” audio/DVD series and asked him about his childhood. John spent 16 years with Microsoft and was the Chief Financial Officer who was responsible for the company’s Global Operation and Technology Group.

John was the middle child, in a family of seven kids. Chris mentioned that he had read a book titled The Birth Order Book in which the middle child is always the one, to go away. I was near the middle in my family of 14 and I was the one that went away. I traveled to seven countries on three separate continents in two separate branches of the service. I always wrote back home and went to visit when I was state-side and always appreciated family.

Early childhood, and family form our worldview. I still remember when I saw an old movie titled, “Little Big Man” in which Dustin Hoffman character’s worldview was effected, by his adopted Native American Grandfather. I served in the United States Army and knew about the Battle of Little Big Horn. I didn’t get the other side of the picture, until my mother’s funeral, when I learned that my grandfather, her father was a Native American, and that she was the last of his 33 children.

In a large family you must learn to give and to share. If your parents don’t have a lot of money you also learn, you have to go to work, to get the things you want. Material things are nice, but what’s really important are the family values of caring for each other. Yes, there is some fussing and fighting but you learn to get along. After all, we are family like the song. What are some of the things you fondly remember about your family?

John talked about being involved in sports, and how it taught him about leadership, team work and sacrifice. Everyone must do his or her part to play the game. A team with good leadership and disciple usually won the game and when they did lose, they had the right attitude. Kids played for the joy of the game. Winning and losing are a part of life.

What is happening in the world today, where is good sportsmanship being taught? What kind of message are we sending to our youth? When some athletes turn professional, it becomes much more than just a game, it turns into, a money machine. Top athletics forget, that they are also role models. Coaches still play a key role in a young person’s life. Some of the best coaches taught about life, beyond the game. Did you have a coach that left a lasting positive impression on you?

When John talked about going off to college he mentioned some good professors he met. Even though it’s been over thirty years I still remember a few professors who left a lasting impression. I was older than most of my class mates at the time, because I went to school under the GI Bill. Certain professors that left the most impact, talked about life skills. I learned that good writing and oral communication skills are very important and they follow you for the rest of your life. Being in the military just reinforced that.

When I have a conversation with people, I talk about purpose. I believe that we were all created for a specific purpose, and it’s more than just putting food on the table, even thought that is a tough task now. I say that based on, where I’ve been, what I’ve seen, and what I’ve read and heard. Listen for yourself and determine what you want to do.

I Listen to the think and grow rich master mind call every Monday thru Friday at 9:00 am EST. 1 -712-432-990 access code 565762#. You are invited to call and listen. The topic of discussion had been Napoleon Hill’s Think and Grow Rich and his first original work titled, Law of Success.

That daily call, became a movement because it has been almost five years. I just found out about it, after I came back from the Empower Network, Miami event. The Inner Circle audio program also has tons of information. I also listen to the “Made for Success” series by Chris Widener and I have accumulated a Jim Rohn library from the Success Store. This has been straight talk, beast mode. Sign in and get started now. If you don’t do something different, your past will be carried forward or will it be dropped?

Hi Earl, it’s been a while, but you always rock. Thanks for being around. Let’s keep winning! I hope you made good use of the ticket to Orlando’s Fight the Forces of Evil (you know what I mean).

Awesome post Earl. Most people want to hide from the past, not move forward from it and try to change it. I know we are here for a reason. Too many people spend their lives searching for their reason for being here, instead of taking one step forward every day.

Daphne Dobson
Awesome post Earl! I resonate with it.
I love that you say, When you have a conversation with people You talk about purpose.
I strongly believe that we’re here for a specific purpose. It’s too bad that so many die, without ever discovering what their purpose was. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the comments, and yes I made it to Orlando to fight the forces of evil. Evil does exist, and the author Sharon Lechter, laid  it out in Napoleon Hills book, Outwitting the Devil – The Secret to Freedom and Success. It’s his final work that was hidden since 1938. Bottom line: People without direction become tools of the devil.

The Journey Continues, it’s 2018

“We are all survivors, or we wouldn’t be here, but some of us have survived with somethings working for us.” T.D. Jakes,  “2017 Motivation  Compilation”.

th

I did an epic blog that got lost in the fog when the Empire fell. With every break up there is some joy and some pain. But when it’s over, the question you should ask yourself, is what did you gain?

In 2013 I started this journey into the internet world. T.D. Jakes talks about commitment, and “that was the year” I became committed to my path. I knew I needed to do something because I was approaching retirement age. I had stuck my toe into blogging but a real world accident on the road, took me to a fork in the road.

I was taking my granddaughter to preschool and got involved in a three car accident. The other two drivers were taken away to the hospital and my granddaughter and I walked away with a scratch. Unfortunately my vehicle’s air bags went off and my car was totaled. Instead of replacing my 10 year old mint condition van,  I took the money and ran towards my destiny. I jumped on a plane and went to Denver Co. to my first Empire Network convention. I bough a program before I left, and as soon as I got back I bought the next one. I got busy and did what I could do.

I traveled so much, that I almost lost track.  It’s only when I look back, that  I can remember all the locations; Denver Co., Washington D.C., Miami FL, Charlotte NC, Orlando FL (twice), Nashville TN, Las Vegas NV (twice) from 2013 to 2015. Air fare, hotel , food and event cost add up quick.  It’s even more of a challenge when you are living on a fixed income. When I was working I could work overtime and qualify for extra pay but there is no overtime in social security.

After working 40+ years and being in two branches of the military (Air Force & Army) I was not going back, to the time clock grind again, period! A friend and business associate of mine asked me if I was still blogging?  He was still working and didn’t have time. I told him yes I did, and he said I have enough material (600 blogs) to write a book.

I ordered the Gerry Robert, author of Millionaire Mindset, home study course, “Publish Your Way to Profits”. So I could get my stuff together in a readable book form.  I wanted to attend the actual course when he came to the Philadelphia PA area but I was away on a trip to Nashville TN. I ordered the home course and saw him do his presentation from South Africa.

I was able to do what I did, because of a unique life experience.  I realized that I have been blessed with a sound mine and healthy body and that I still have a purpose to fulfill. I’m still here, another year. I’ve seen homeless veterans walking the streets and young folks distracted without any direction. I feel great at 68, and I want to feel fine when I turn 69. I plan to have “published author” added to my name.

I have been Standing in the Shadows, Listening to the Greats!!!   It’s a blog novel of true stories of ordinary people who overcame all kinds of odds to become extraordinary, who then turned around to help others.

Look for the seeds of greatness

images
Some of the best seeds we plant, are in the garden of the mind.
Denis Waitley and his grandmother planted a victory garden near the end of world war two. As they put in the little seeds, she told him that whatever you put in the ground, will grow. He didn’t know it but she was also planting the seeds of his success.

She told him that if they planted fruit or vegetables they would grow. The weeds will come in uninvited and unannounced, you don’t even have to water them, but that is how life is. When good seeds are planted in people, they will grow also. Model yourself from good people and you will be all right. And you will be able to handle the weeds, the cares of life, and move forward in spite of the troubles.

If you don’t have a wise grandmother, who gives you words of wisdom, search for a “good gardener”. I found the seed of greatness in books. Napoleon Hill is well known for Think and Grow Rich. A lot of people may not be aware, but that classic book was based on a quest that took many years, that resulted in the first book titled, The Law of Success.

The Law of Success was published in 1928, after 20 years of research and interviewing some of the richest people in the world at that time. Eighty some years later there is a group that still studies his material; the think and grow rich mastermind group. The link is growrichaudios.com. Monday through Friday at 9 am EST you can call and listen in or participate. The phone number is 712-432-0900 access code 565762#. Paul Hutchins is the host and the call has been on-going for five+ years.

The best seed store for the mind, that I found was the Success Store. They have a catalog of material from Jim Rohn, Les Brown, Denis Waitley, Chris Widener and a host of other motivational and inspiration speakers. There are books, DVD’s/CD’s and digital downloads. You can even sign up for a FREE Online Newsletter.
I choose Jim Rohn for his grandfatherly way of explaining things; simple, yet profound and life changing. I never met my grand fathers but I’m sure they would have shared some of their wisdom.

If you don’t have a positive role model, you can get around people that can have a specific goal in mind. Get involved in organized activities; sports teams, a musical band or a club where people have the same goals in mind, instead of the same problems.

Too many young folks have no direction, and they make the wrong choices and they join the wrong group. If my father had not stepped in, there is no telling where I might have ended up. Respect or fear kept me and my friends out of trouble. But that was then, and this is now.

You can read about people who overcame their situation and went on to make a contribution to society. Bibliographies of famous people, is a great starting place. Most started with nothing, and turned their life into something.

The name of the book is Standing in the Shadows, Listening to the Greats!!! It’s a blog novel of ordinary people who overcame all kinds of odds to become extraordinary, who then turned around to help others.

If you are in a negative environment find those positive things that will keep you afloat. Realize that bad news sells, and that fire burns some, and warms others. Most people just are glad, it didn’t happen to them. You can blend in, or you can stand out. Either way, it’s your choice.

If your family is the problem, turn their negatives into a positive. You can’t cut off family, but you can limit the time you spend with them, unless you are married to them. Be careful of what you let into your mind.

If possible, join a mastermind group; like-minded people with a goal in mind. If you can join a community, join and get the family involved. I always found that most multilevel organizations, are very positive minded because, you must have the right mind set, to build an organization, or else no one would want to join you, and your efforts.

I have been in several multilevel organizations over the years and I always liked being around positive people. You can go to your job with a negative attitude, “as long as the boss don’t see you”. But being negative in your own business, and you won’t attract customers, or get paid.

Everybody has a story. I made some money in one MLM opportunity, because I was at the right place at the right time. I had an organization of 1,000 reps with 10,000 customers but the company went public and was bought up by another company, and the income opportunity disappeared.

The history behind the Empire Network was that the co-founders, David Wood and David Sharpe had success, but their teams weren’t. They set out to change that! I went to Denver Colorado, my first major event and saw the awarding of the first members of the millionaires club, in person.

I attended the Team Take Massive Action training for the next day, with one of the members of the new millionaires club. In Washington D.C. when the company decided to have regional events I had a chance to meet another group of leaders, and to hear their stories. All along, seeds were being planted. This has been straight talk, no chaser. If you don’t plant seeds you won’t have a crop.

Fantastic post Earl! I love what you say here, some of the best seeds we plant are in the garden of the mind. Powerful stuff! Thanks for sharing!

The seed of greatness and the garden of success, I love that. I didn’t have a grandmother, growing up. I am drawn to magnificent life leaders like Napoleon Hill as well. We have the ability to grow into our greatness each and every day. And I’m glad to be around incredible people like yourself and our community.
Thanks for sharing Earl!

You simply got to start surrounding yourself in an environment of positive people. There is definitely, greatness within yourself with more positive energy than a negative one!
Thanks Earl

Thanks for your comments. If we plant no seeds, the garden gets filled with weeds.        What we put in our mind now, determine our future deeds.

How the power of perseverance, wins in the end

Oliver Napoleon Hill went through more setbacks than most, yet he persevered.

Napoleon Hill was born into poverty, illiteracy and superstition in Virginia in October 26, 1883. He was only eight when his mother died. Little Hill who was nicknamed Nap, wanted to be like Jessie James, the outlaw and I’m sure he and his brother were a hand full. So, his dad got married right away.

images
Hill’s father married a woman named Martha who became a major influence in young Oliver’s life. She encouraged him to give up the cap gun and pick up a pen. She told him, that he needed to go in another direction, and needed to use his overactive imagination to become a writer. She told him that if he got as good with the pen, he would be more famous than Jessie James.
Before he was twenty, Hill landed a job with Bob Taylor’s Magazine where his first assignment was to interview the richest man in America at that time, Andrew Carnegie, the 73-year-old steel magnate. It’s at this initial meeting that the wise and wealthy older man said, “It’s a shame that each generation must go through so much trial and error to find success in life”.

He also said, “Wouldn’t it be nice, if someone documented and recorded the success principles, that anyone could follow?” He paused then he gave the challenge, that forever changed Napoleon Hill’s life. He asked if Hill if he was willing to commit the next twenty years to complete the work (without compensation). Since Andrew Carnegie knew most of the powerful people, he would introduce Hill to them.

th

Hill took on the life time mission, but he wanted to have a life at the same time, so he took out a personal ad in the newspaper for a woman seeking marriage. When he went to the woman’s house to meet her, her cousin caught his eye. So, he married Florence Elizabeth Horner and they had three sons. But Hill was so determined to succeed that he left the family and went to Chicago to seek his fortune.

Hill held several jobs, but ended up working for President Woodrow Wilson, writing propaganda, during the “Great War”. After the war, he pitched his idea for a magazine, to a printer named George Williams. He called it “Hill’s Golden Rules”. Unfortunately, a rife developed between Hill and Williams and the magazine folded. (a minor misfortune)
He then moved to Ohio where he met Don Mellet, publisher of the Canton Daily News. Don was involved in trying to publish articles about prohibition, and he was gunned down by gangsters. The only reason Hill was not killed was because his car broke down. This time he went to Virginia. (major crisis and misfortune)

th
Hill struggled for about a year with depression, but finally found a publisher willing to publish his book. His Law of Success was a smashing success and he finally called for his wife and sons to join him, now that he had lots of money. When the Great Depression came, the royalty checks stopped coming in and he became broke again. This time when the current President called for his services, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, his wife filed for divorce this time. (crisis and misfortune again)
So he got married again: This time to Rosa Lee Beeland. She was 29 and he was 54. She labored with him on the “Thirteen Steps to Riches” manuscript, but the publisher thought it sounded too much like his first book, so Hill changed the name to Think and Grow Rich. By 1940 Hill was a millionaire again, and they were spending the money as fast as it came in. But when the divorce came, the wife got most of the money.
Hill then met and married a highly educated woman, who worked for Jacobs Press., Annie Lou Norman was 47 and Hill was 60. She was his final companion who stuck with him until the end of his days. To me that is another lesson; on persistence. It’s never to late to find a good mate.

Upon Hill’s death, she appointed the first executive director to the Napoleon Hill Foundation, so Napoleon Hill’s work would go on. Before the end, Hill went to Chicago again, where he met W. Clement Stone who had been struggling, but was now wealthy because he read the book Think and Grow Rich. They formed a partnership which lead to Success Unlimited which later turned into Success Magazine.

th

Napoleon Hill never accumulated the wealth that Andrew Carnegie had, but he will forever be remembered, for the books he wrote, and the influence he left to the world. He lived his message, that you can do anything you want, if you believe and put forth the effort. What is your destiny? If you don’t write your story, who will? This has been straight talk, beast mode. Blogging for me was about telling my story. Don’t you think it’s time, to write yours?

Really enjoyed the post and the videos. Napoleon Hill is one of my favorite authors and a source of inspiration.

Thank you Shahidah for your comments.
Glad I had the opportunity to finally meet you in person at one of the events. Most people who get comments over the internet never get to meet the other person on the other end. That was the “personal part ” of being in the Empire Network. Everybody does not make a lot of money but everyone can build relationships; syndication and events did that.

If you are reading this in book form it means I persevered to write about my adventures. This is my way of saying thanks to Napoleon Hill, who has helped so many over the years. Still it’s hard to believe that he wrote the Law of Success in 1928 after 20 years of studying the riches people on planet earth at that time.

What you see, didn’t take 20 years of study but two years+ of blogging almost every day coupled with life skills as a two-time military veteran, plus 40 + years of life, grinding to make something of myself. I think my mom would be proud. Pop also.

It’s better to be late, than not at all! Now it’s, your turn, and the rest of the crew!
